Otto w. Shaler Scholarship
The Otto W. Shaler Scholarship provides financial support to international graduate students who have financial need, and who demonstrate outstanding past academic achievement as well as future promise. All Schools are invited to submit one nomination each.
- School nomination deadline: November 15, 2024
- Multiple fellows will be selected to receive a stipend of $11,500 + resident fees for Spring 2024
Newcombe Doctoral Dissertation Fellowship
he Newcombe Fellowship supports doctoral candidates in their final year of writing, who are working in areas of religion, ethics, values, or morals.
- The open submission application closes on November 1, 2024.
- The award consists of $31,000 over a 12-month period
Brython Davis Fellowship
The Brython Davis Fellowship provides financial support to graduate students who demonstrate outstanding past academic achievement as well as future promise, have financial need, are U.S. citizens, and are the child of a service member or veteran of the U.S. Navy or Marine Corps.
- Submission deadline: November 15, 2024
- The award consists of a $11,500 stipend and resident fees for Spring 2024. Up to four awards will be made.
James Harvey Scholar
The James Harvey Scholar award provides financial support to graduate students who demonstrate outstanding past academic achievement as well as future promise, have financial need, and are completing a publishable thesis or dissertation on homosexuality or the life or works of James Harvey.
- Submission deadline: November 15, 2024
- The award consists of a $11,500 stipend and resident fees for Spring 2024. One award will be made.
Gordon Hein Scholarship
The Gordon Hein Scholarship provides financial support to graduate students who demonstrate outstanding past academic achievement as well as future promise, have financial need, and are blind or legally blind. Certification by the Disability Services Center is required.
- Submission deadline: November 15, 2024
- The award consists of a $11,500 stipend and resident fees for Spring 2024. Up to three awards will be made.
La Verne Noyes Fellowship
The La Verne Noyes Fellowship provides financial support to graduate students who demonstrate outstanding past academic achievement as well as future promise, have financial need, are U.S. citizens, and are descendants of World War I U.S. Army or Navy veterans.
- Submission deadline: November 15, 2024
- The award consists of a $5,000 stipend for Spring 2024. Up to three awards will be made.
Miguel Velez Scholarship
The Miguel Velez Scholarship provides financial support to graduate students who demonstrate outstanding past academic achievement as well as future promise, have financial need, and are citizens of a Latin American country. Preference is given to citizens of Colombia.
- Submission deadline: November 15, 2024
- The award consists of a $11,500 stipend and resident fees for Spring 2024. Up to eight awards will be made.

Chancellor’s Club Fellowship
Chancellor’s Club Fellowships are intended to recognize our most academically superior doctoral and MFA students — those who exhibit outstanding promise as scholars, researchers, and public leaders. Please note, nominated students must be first-generation college students, with neither parent having received a four-year degree.
- School Submission Deadline: October 31, 2024
- Two fellows will be selected to receive a stipend of $18,000 for the period of January through June 2025
Fletcher Jones Fellowship
The Fletcher Jones Fellowship is a highly prestigious award, made available through funding from the Fletcher Jones Foundation. It is competitively awarded to outstanding doctoral students who have advanced to candidacy and demonstrate financial need.
- School Submission Deadline: October 31, 2024
- Three doctoral students will be awarded with a dissertation completion fellowship in the amount of $10,000
Graduate Scholar Success Fund
The Graduate Scholar Success Fund was established with the goal of supporting first-generation students who are facing urgent financial need. This emergency funding aims to reduce financial stress and foster success amongst first-generation students at UC Irvine.
- School Submission Deadline: nominations will be evaluated on a rolling basis
- Schools may submit proposals to request emergency funding up to $9,500, provided they can match the requested funds.
Public Impact Fellowship
Public Impact Fellowships highlight and support doctoral and MFA students whose current research has the potential for substantial impact in the public sphere. Ideal candidates will be involved in research designed to significantly improve or enrich the lives of Californians and/or national and global communities.
- Application Deadline: October 23, 2024
- Final Interviews: November 20, 2024
- Four Distinguished Fellow Awards of $10,000 and Ten Honorable Mention Awards of $1,000
UC President’s Lindau Nobel Laureate Meetings Fellows
OVPTL and Graduate Division are coordinating the UCI campus applications for the sixth annual class of the UC President’s Lindau Nobel Laureate Meetings Fellows. These fellows can be undergraduate, graduate students or postdoctoral fellows and will be supported to attend the Lindau Meetings for Chemistry and Economic Sciences in summer 2025. UCI may put forward five campus nominees for each meeting for consideration.
- Application Deadline: September 23, 2024 by 5pm
- UCOP will provide funds for students and postdoctoral fellows to travel to Lindau, Germany to participate in a Lindau Nobel Laureate Meeting
UC President’s Postdoctoral Fellowship Program
The current program offers postdoctoral research fellowships and faculty mentoring to outstanding scholars in all fields whose research, teaching, and service will contribute to the diversity and equal opportunity at the University of California
- Application Deadline: November 1, 2024
- The award includes a salary starting at approximately $66,737 (and up) for a period of 12 months

NCI Predoctoral to Postdoctoral Fellow Transition Award F99/K00
The purpose of the NCI Predoctoral to Postdoctoral Fellow Transition Award (F99/K00) is to encourage and retain outstanding graduate students recognized by their institutions for their high potential and strong interest in pursuing careers as independent cancer researchers. The award will facilitate the transition of talented graduate students into successful cancer research postdoctoral appointments and provide opportunities for career development activities relevant to their long-term career goals of becoming independent cancer researchers. UCI may put forward one applicant.

DAAD Graduate Scholarships for Study/Research in Germany
DAAD (German Academic Exchange Service) is a registered members association made up of German institutions of higher education and student bodies. DAAD provides young people with the opportunity to gain international academic and research experience in Germany. Since it was founded in 1925, DAAD has provided funding to more than 1.9 million scholars in Germany and abroad.
DAAD has invited UC Irvine to nominate two priority candidates for the Research Grants in Germany Program (formerly the short-term and long-term grant programs). Candidates who aren’t selected as UC Irvine’s priority applicant are still able to apply; however, they will run in the open competition with candidates with all over North America. DAAD also offers many additional opportunities for students to study or do research in Germany which students are free to apply for directly. Description: This session will focus on the Personal, Relevant Background and Future Goals Statement, which allows the applicants to tell their personal story to the National Science Foundation. Participants will be given an overview of this document, and learn strategies for speaking to their personal intellectual merit and broader impact. This session will also include a short brainstorming activity to help participants get started drafting this document.
Call for Proposals – Addressing Bias and Building Community at UC Irvine Grant Program
The University of California has provided each campus with one-time funding to address and combat antisemitism, Islamophobia, and other forms of bias, bigotry, and discrimination at the university. Funds from this resource will support the Addressing Bias and Building Community at UC Irvine (ABC at UCI) grant program. The Office of Inclusive Excellence is now accepting proposals for up to $3,000 from UCI faculty, staff, and students.
Dean’s Recent Alumni Fellowship
This fellowship aims at easing the transition from graduate school into full-time careers either in academia or other industries. While the fellowship is unpaid, a recipient of this fellowship will receive access to resources that will pay immense dividends going forward and was developed in consultation with young professionals and alumni to provide resources they wished they had access to while in graduate school. ResearchAmerica’s Civic Engagement Microgrant Program
ResearchAmer!ca is awarding microgrants of up to $3,000 on a rolling basis to STEM groups led by master’s, PhD, postdoc, or professional students to design and execute projects that create dialogue with public officials, local community leaders, and the public around issues of common concern. These funds provide opportunities for grantees to develop skills in areas such as communication and program planning, along with an understanding of public policy and government to have an impact in their local communities. May 2024 – Fellowship Announcements
Randall Lewis Health & Policy Fellowship
The purpose of the Randall Lewis Health & Policy Fellowship program is to ensure the development of public health and health administration, health policy, urban planning, and data professionals who possess the necessary skills to influence positive change in public policy, systems, and the built environment in our local communities.
The Fellowship is a collaboration between participating cities, agencies, businesses, health systems, local not-for-profits, county departments of public health and universities. Students in the following disciplines are encouraged to apply: MPH, MHA, MBA MPP, MUP, Data Science and, Doctoral Fellows!
The application deadline is July 15 although earlier submissions are encouraged. The internal “intent to apply” is due to Graduate Division by July 11 at the latest.
ARCS Scholars Awards
ARCS (Achievement Rewards for College Scientists) Foundation, Inc. is a unique, nonprofit, national volunteer organization of women dedicated to providing scholarships to academically outstanding U.S. citizens studying to complete their degrees in science, medicine and engineering, thereby contributing to the worldwide advancement of science and technology.
School Nomination Deadline: June 28, 2024
Students should check with their schools for internal deadlines and procedures before submitting any materials.
April 2024 – Guru Gobind Singh Fellowship
Guru Gobind Singh Fellowship
In 1988 the University received a bequest from the late Mr. Karam Singh Maughan to establish an endowment to support graduate fellowships (named for Guru Gobind Singh, the Sikh religious leader) to be awarded to graduates of universities in a specific area of India and Pakistan for the purpose of pursuing graduate study at the University of California.
- One campus nominee will be selected to represent UCI
- Award is $30,000 for 2024-25

The award is open to graduate students, faculty, and postdoctoral scholars. Three awards in the amount of $500 will be made to one graduate student, faculty and postdoctoral scholar.
