School Nomination Required:

Fletcher Jones Fellowship
This prestigious award is intended to provide financial support to doctoral students that will allow them to fully focus on their dissertation research.  As this fellowship is intended to support doctoral degree completion, students demonstrating a clear plan and strong likelihood of filing their dissertation by the summer dissertation filing deadline at the end of the award year will be given the strongest consideration.

  • School Nomination Deadline: November 6, 2026 by 5pm PST
  • Award of $12K stipend in Winter quarter
  • Candidates must be advanced to candidacy by November 6, 2026


Chancellor’s Club Fellowship
Chancellor’s Club Fellowships are intended to recognize our most academically superior doctoral and MFA students — those who exhibit outstanding promise as scholars, researchers, and public leaders. Please note, nominated students must be first-generation college students, with neither parent having received a four-year degree.

  • School Nomination Deadline: November 6, 2026 by 5pm PST
  • Six-month stipend for a total of $24,000 for the period of January through June
  • If a doctoral student, be advanced to candidacy for the Ph.D. by November 6, 2026
  • Be a first-generation college student, with neither parent having received a four-year degree

NCI Predoc to Postdoc F99 K00 Transition Award
The purpose of the Predoctoral to Postdoctoral Transition Award (Parent F99/K00) is to support promising graduate students as they complete their doctoral research training and transition to mentored postdoctoral career development opportunities in research areas relevant to the mission of participating NIH Institutes and Centers (ICs), preparing them to become productive, independent researchers.

  • Next deadline for submission:  December 8, 2026
  • F99 Phase (Predoctoral): Provides 1 to 2 years of mentored research training to support completion of the research doctorate, including final experiments, dissertation preparation, and selection of a postdoctoral mentor.
  • K00 Phase (Postdoctoral): Provides up to 3 years of mentored postdoctoral research and career development support


UC President’s Postdoctoral Fellowship Program
The University of California President’s Postdoctoral Fellowship Program is dedicated to ensuring that outstanding degree recipients have an opportunity to work with UC tenured faculty, to prepare for careers of distinction. The program is open to all scholars holding terminal degrees in their discipline.

  • Application Deadline: November 1, 2026
  • The fellowship provides a salary at $69,073 and $5,000 for research expenses and professional development. The award also includes benefits (health, vision and dental), paid sick leave, family/medical leave, and 4 weeks of paid time off during the fellowship term.

Public Impact Fellowship
Public Impact Fellowships highlight and support doctoral and MFA students whose current research has the potential for substantial impact in the public sphere. Ideal candidates will be involved in research designed to significantly improve or enrich the lives of regional, national or global communities. 

  • Application Deadline: October 26, 2026 by 5pm PST
  • Awards in the amount of $5,000 and $1000 stipends for Winter quarter


Waffarn Family Maternal Child Health Endowment
The Waffarn Family Maternal Child Health Endowment provides financial support for doctoral research on maternal, fetal, and pediatric health. It offers support to Ph.D. students who demonstrate outstanding academic achievements and career goals in the above areas.

  • Award in the amount of $5,000 for Winter quarter


Katherine & Robert Phalen Endowment
The Katherine and Robert Phalen Endowment is intended to highlight and support doctoral students whose current laboratory research shows future promise for preventing, treating, or understanding human disease.

  • Application Deadline: October 26, 2026 by 5pm PST
  • Award in the amount of $3,000 and two $500 runner-up awards for Winter quarter

UC President’s Lindau Nobel Laureate Meetings Fellows
University of the Office of the President (UCOP) will provide funds for students and post- doctoral fellows to travel to Lindau, Germany to participate in a Lindau Nobel Laureate Meeting. Allowable expenses are covered by University of California travel policy. Fellows may be asked to travel to an orientation meeting prior to the Lindau Nobel Meeting, in which case associated expenses will be covered.

DAAD Graduate Scholarships for Study/Research in Germany
DAAD has invited UC Irvine to nominate one priority candidate for the Research Grants in Germany Program (formerly the short-term and long-term grant programs). Candidates who aren’t selected as UC Irvine’s priority applicant are still able to apply; however, they will run in the open competition with candidates with all over North America.  DAAD also offers many additional opportunities for students to study or do research in Germany which students are free to apply for directly. Gilliam Fellows Program
The HHMI Gilliam Fellows Program is an early career initiative that supports PhD students and their faculty advisors as they pursue ambitious science and build inclusive training environments. The program is unique in supporting both graduate students and their faculty PhD advisors as mentor-mentee pairs.

Gilliam Fellows receive up to three years of stipend support and a discretionary allowance during their PhD training, along with professional development programming tailored to both students and advisors. Through HHMI Science Meetings and the Gilliam Annual Meeting, Fellows join a thriving scientific community that spans disciplines and career stages.

Charlotte W. Newcombe Doctoral Dissertation Fellowship
The Newcombe Fellowship supports doctoral candidates in their final year of writing, who are working in areas of religion, ethics, values, or morals.

Candidates are evaluated based on scholarly excellence; quality and originality of the project; and commitment to research that advances religious understanding, ethics, and values.

The purpose of the Charlotte W. Newcombe Doctoral Dissertation Fellowship is to offset living expenses while the dissertation is completed. Fellows must use the award for the final year of writing the dissertation. Fellows’ graduate schools will be asked to waive tuition and fees while maintaining health insurance for Newcombe Fellows
