Emotional Intelligence
Emotional Intelligence (EQ) is the ability to understand your own emotions and the emotions of others, and to use that understanding to effectively solve problems and make decisions. In practice, people with high EQ are associated with better physical and mental health, social relationships, adaptive coping skills, and academic/job performance.
This graduate-level certificate program is designed to help you learn, practice, and apply social and emotional skills in your personal, academic, and career contexts. You will learn the art and science behind emotions: from what research tells us about emotions, to how to stand out in job interviews, to how to harness your emotions for purpose and resilience.

“Dr. Woo is a passionate emotional intelligence instructor and very approachable for difficult conversations. Her workshops were interactive, fun, and incredibly easy to integrate into my busy schedule. I looked forward to each Friday morning and I often thought, “wow where did the time go?” or “I wished we had more time.” So grateful for her workshop especially as a young professional working in and leading teams. Her course permeates all aspects of life from professional to personal. Thank you Jenny!” – Joanne Ly, Ph.D. Biomedical/Medical Engineering
“I would 1,000% recommend this program to everyone. In fact, this program should be an elective that gets offered to all executive level MBA classes or anyone in a leadership role. The material covered in the program is relevant, easy to understand and can be applied to every aspect of one’s life (personal and professional).” – Robynne Curry, M.A. Business Administration
“Jenny kept the live zoom sessions very engaging and touched the topics that we wouldn’t generally discuss in the public, openly. All the conversations that we had were extremely meaningful and enlightening. The biggest take-way for me was the fact that I was introduced to so many people with vivid backgrounds. This really helps you understand the perspectives that different people have towards dealing with their emotions and collectively learning about navigating through them in a fun-filled environment was extremely rewarding. I would most definitely recommend this program to all UCI graduate students.” – Aneesh Thakur, M.A. Computer Science
