The UC-HBCU Fellowship is a multi-year fellowship for students who have participated in the UC-HBCU Initiative in the last five years. The funding package below is for Fall 2026 admitted students.
Students are eligible for up to two years of fellowship support:

- The student will initially be offered five years of support from the program.
- The Graduate Division will fund one additional year with a $42,000 stipend plus tuition and fees during Year 1.

- UC Office of the President (UCOP) will swap one year of department funding with fellowship support.

- Does include Non-Resident Student Tuition (NRST) for Year 1.

- Summer stipend highly encouraged.

- Department will provide support for the additional three years which may be in the form of employment.
- Provide support during non-fellowship years at levels outlined in bargaining agreements.
- A $3,000 transition supplement to support moving expenses.
- $5,000 of professional development funding that may be used at any time during the Ph.D. program.
- Funding levels listed above apply to incoming 2026 fellows.
