Overview

The Tyler’s Tribe Foundation Endowment for ALS Research, supported by the Tyler’s Tribe Foundation, provides fellowship awards to graduate students conducting research on Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS). This includes work on treatment, diagnosis, prevention, medical device innovation, and improving end-of-life care. As neurodegenerative diseases like ALS continue to rise, the fellowship helps support the next generation of researchers committed to advancing care and accelerating breakthroughs for those affected by this devastating condition.

Award Information

Two fellows will be selected to receive a $1,000 stipend each to be used during Winter and/or Spring quarter.

Eligibility Criteria

  1. Have a minimum graduate-level UCI GPA of 3.7 (at least 3 quarters of graduate coursework completed at UCI at time of application)
  2. Must satisfy the minimum eligibility criteria for fellowships
    • Eligibility requires full-time enrollment in a minimum load of 12 quarter units.
    • You must achieve a letter grade of B, S, or above for all coursework during each of the three most recent enrollment quarters.
    • During the three most recent semesters of enrollment, you can earn no more than two incomplete (I) grades.
    • Maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher during each of the three most recent quarters of enrollment.
    • You need to demonstrate satisfactory academic progress towards your degree objective.
  3. Be conducting and contributing to research directly related to Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) including but not limited to:
    1. treatment, diagnosis, prevention, medical device innovation, and improving end-of-life care

Application Process

Students may submit an application directly.  Be prepared to provide the following information:

  • Student Profile (300 words or less)
    • Provide a brief biographic student profile of less than 300 words. Include, where applicable, undergraduate university and previous degrees, research interests, current projects, honors, work experience, outside interests, and any special characteristics or activities.
  • Research Statement (500 words or less)
    • Provide a statement describing your research project, written for a committee of non-specialists.
    • Be sure to include how your work contributes to treatment, diagnosis, prevention, medical device innovation, and/or improving end-of-life care in regards to ALS research
  • Impact Statement (300 words or less)
    • Provide a statement about what this award would mean to you and how you would best utilize it, if selected.
  • A current Curriculum Vitae
  • Letter of recommendation from a faculty advisor/mentor
