Overview

ARCS (Achievement Rewards for College Scientists) Foundation, Inc. is a unique, nonprofit, national volunteer organization of women dedicated to providing scholarships to academically outstanding U.S. citizens studying to complete their degrees in science, medicine and engineering, thereby contributing to the worldwide advancement of science and technology.

Award Information

$5,000 stipend per year for two years. Continued funding is contingent upon enrollment and satisfactory academic progress towards a PhD degree, and presentations at annual awards dinner.

Important Dates

Deadline for Schools to Provide Nominations to Graduate Division: June 28, 2024

 

Note: Each designated School conducts an internal competition, resulting in an earlier application deadline. Students and faculty should contact their respective School administration for information on the internal deadlines.

Eligibility Criteria

Each designated School conducts an internal competition and selects scholars who meet the following minimum criteria.

  • Nominations are accepted for students in the following schools:
    • Biological Sciences, Engineering, Information & Computer Science, Medicine or Physical Sciences
  • Must have achieved a graduate level UC GPA of 3.5 or better through the winter quarter.
  • Must have have completed at least two years of graduate study, with at least two years remaining before degree completion.
  • Must be making satisfactory progress toward their degree goal.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen.
  • Must have identified their individual area of research interest and be willing to prepare a poster board of their research for display at the awards dinner.
  • Must have exhibited excellent interpersonal and leadership abilities during their academic program.
  • Students must have advanced to candidacy at the time of nomination

Nomination Process

Each designated School conducts an internal competition and is asked to submit two nominations to the Graduate Division.  Students and faculty should work within their respective schools to put together and submit an application for the ARCS Scholarship.  The Graduate Division will not accept applications directly from students or faculty.

Designated Schools:  Biological Sciences, Engineering, Information & Computer Science, Medicine or Physical Sciences

Stipulations

Continued funding is contingent upon enrollment and satisfactory academic progress towards a PhD degree, and presentations at an annual award dinners in each Fall and Spring during the award.
