MARCH 2018

DEAN'S MESSAGE

As recruitment season draws to a close, I urge you to continue your efforts to reach out to those excellent students who have not yet responded to your admissions offers. Given our campus enrollment growth goals, it is now more important than ever to make extra efforts to increase the yield of admitted students. It is very effective to have faculty make a personal phone call to students whom they would like to recruit. In addition, funds are still available for the Diversity Recruitment, Graduate Dean’s Recruitment and Nevin Graduate Endowment Fellowships. Our applications from diversity students are up this year, and this is a good opportunity to recruit them.

I look forward to seeing you on March 2, at the Cove at UCI Applied Innovation for our campus Grad Slam finals. The competition is from 3:45pm and will conclude at 5:10pm with a special reception to follow. Come cheer on our GradEaters who will give their three-minute research presentations in front of a panel of judges and a live audience. The winner will go on to compete against the other nine UC campus representatives at the UC system-wide event at the LinkedIn headquarters in San Francisco.

Our campus finalists are:

Finally, I’d like to thank everyone who participated, in providing nominations for Tom Angell Mentoring Fellowships. We have made the following awards:

All awardees and nominees were recognized at the Mentoring for Achievement and Excellence event on February 27th, which was hosted by the Office of Inclusive Excellence. Thank you to our fellowship review committee – your support during this process is very much appreciated.
