Finding a place to live can be a challenge when moving to a new country. UC Irvine has one of the best on-campus graduate housing programs in the U.S. All new Ph.D., MFA, and JD students are guaranteed housing for a minimum of three years, with the possibility of lease renewal thereafter if they respond to their housing offer by the deadline, typically around May 1st. Some master's students also find housing on campus, or live in very convenient off-campus apartments directly adjacent to the campus. UC Irvine also happens to be situated in one of the best regions in the country with a near-perfect climate. Orange County is midway between Los Angeles and San Diego, and about 3 miles (5K) to some of the best beaches in the world. Irvine is regularly recognized as the safest city of its size, with the lowest violent crime rate of any U.S. city with a population larger than 100,000.
